Tallow for Littles

3 min read

Some creams kids put up with. This is the one they ask for.

Our unscented tallow cream is made with two ingredients - 100% grass-fed Canadian beef tallow and organic cold-pressed unrefined jojoba oil. No preservatives, no synthetic fragrance, no fillers. Nothing your kids don't need and everything their skin does.

A welcome addition to your bedtime routine. Just apply to damp skin right after bath or shower and you're done.

What is Tallow?

Tallow is rendered beef fat - and before you scroll past, hear us out. Tallow's fatty acid profile closely mirrors the skin's own natural oils, making it one of the most skin-compatible ingredients available. It's been used on skin for centuries and it's having a well deserved comeback - particularly among parents looking for something simpler and gentler than what's on the shelves.

We only use suet (tallow) from Ontario pasture-raised grass-fed cattle - the most nutrient-dense and cleanest source available. Rendered, strained and turned into the creamiest formula we could make.

Why It's So Gentle

Our unscented tallow cream has two ingredients. That's it. And that simplicity is the point.

Most conventional moisturizers contain preservatives, emulsifiers, synthetic fragrance and a long list of ingredients necessary to hold the formula together. Our formula doesn't need any of that because it contains no water. No water means no preservatives needed. No synthetic fragrance means one less common irritant. No emulsifiers means nothing that can disrupt the skin barrier with repeated use.

That simplicity genuinely matters for kids with sensitive or reactive skin - the ones who flare up easily, get dry in winter or react to conventional products. Fewer ingredients means fewer potential triggers. It's not a treatment for any skin condition and we'd never claim otherwise. But giving sensitive skin a simple, gentle formula is a really good place to start.

As always, patch test before use and consult your healthcare provider for any ongoing or severe skin concerns.

Barrier Support - What It Actually Does

Tallow is both an emollient and an occlusive which means it nourishes and seals the skin barrier in a single ingredient.

As an emollient it softens and smooths the skin by filling in the tiny gaps between skin cells. Skin feels soft, comfortable and supported.

As an occlusive it forms a protective layer over the skin that slows water loss. For kids whose skin gets dry, particularly in Canadian winters, that seal makes a meaningful difference.

Applied to damp skin after a bath, the tallow cream locks in the surface moisture before it evaporates. That's it. Simple, effective and exactly what dry or reactive skin needs.

We never claim to treat any skin condition. What we can say is that a two ingredient formula with no common irritants gives sensitive skin the best possible environment to stay calm and comfortable. Many parents in our community have found it makes a real difference for their kids and we love hearing those stories!

How to Use - Bedtime Routine

The best time to apply is right after bath or shower while skin is still slightly damp and warm. It fits naturally into the bedtime routine and takes less than a minute. Pat skin gently, don't fully dry off, and apply while there's still a little moisture on the surface. The tallow seals it in immediately.

Warm a small amount between your fingertips and smooth gently over the skin. For kids a pea sized amount is plenty for face and hands. A little more for body and legs. A little really does go a long way.

Apply wherever skin needs attention - face, body, hands, dry patches, anywhere. It absorbs beautifully on damp skin without leaving a greasy feeling.

Avoid contact with eyes. Patch test before first use, especially for sensitive or reactive skin.
